Now, after you watch this graphic video there are some things you should concider:
1. George W. Bush banned the media from filming or photographing the coffins of US soldiers being brought back from Iraq, Afghanistan, or any other the other secret wars the US is engaged in around the world.
2. Barack Obama decided to also sustain the media blackout on the coffins and took it even further and has aggressively hunted and prosecuted any soldiers or citizens who've released images or videos of the violence committed by the US military (See: Bradley Manning)
3. The rationale given for shielding the population from the violence of war, and the images and videos of war is that it would demoralize the public, turn the public against the war and the government, and provoke the US population to feel guilt about the violence committed by its soldiers and military.
Now, why is the same corporate media that will not show us the violence of the military, or the violence of private military contractors, or the violence of corporations, or any of the violence coming from the top down, from those in power against those with no power, willing to show us violent footage of the Lumpen-proletariat, especially if those lumpen are Black?
Why is it that even them most ignorant members of our community are aware of the homicides and violence, why is this information inescapable when the general population is so ignorant of so many other issues or social ills?
This is not news, this is not the media trying to keep us informed, this is not even basic journalism, this is propaganda; understand, just because it's true or factual doesn't mean it's not propaganda. If the media will show us the violence of the poor and Black, but not the violence of the Wealthy Elite, then they are manipulating our perceptions, they are indoctrinating us against ourselves.
I'm not trying to excuse the violence, just place it in the larger context of this society and the overall systems of Global White Domination.
If the media is telling and showing us graphic violence, then failing to protect us, or give us the means to protect ourselves, then it's not reporting on the violence to help us, it's doing so to traumatize us and turn us against ourselves; and it's working. You interact with most Black people and they will openly share with you their shame, hostility, rejection of, or ambivalence towards the larger Black population. They will say "ni99as ain't shit," "I can't be around ni99as," "these ni99as all need to be locked up." Yet they can hear about an atrocity committed by the police or military and they will not reject the systems or institutions of power.
The Black community is being systematically demoralized, turned against ourselves, and rendered hopeless; at the same time we are being falsely portrayed as inherently criminal and violent. That's the same tactic you find in Nazi propaganda, Joseph Goebbels use identical tactics against the Jews to turn the average German citizen against the Jews in the Ghettos of Nazi Germany....the overlaps are striking.
Look beneath they surface. Know that when they show you such videos they are trying to provoke a visceral emotional response and shut down your rational mind. Know that we will only address the violence and criminality when we look beyond the violence and criminality and attack the root causes, the fundamental causes of violence and criminality. That's the Radical approach.
Again, I'm not trying to excuse the violence, I live just a few blocks from one of the hottest corners in South Chicago, I fucking hate the violence, but I refuse to allow the media or our enemies to manipulate me or distort my understanding of the violence and what needs to be done.
The media don't give a fuck about violence or they'd expose all violence equally, not just poor peoples' violence, they want to engulf our communities in fear and distrust. They want to justify the Elite's agendas against us from Gentrification to Genocide.
